To Sift or not to Sift that is the question
It’s been a crazy few weeks with social distancing in full swing. Baking has helped ease some anxiety and put smiles on my family’s faces (and maybe a few pounds on their waistlines)
Now baking as we know is a delicate balancing act between following the recipe and knowing when you can stray ever so slightly without turning your oven into a science experiment gone wrong. One of the things that needs to be carefully prepared, especially with gluten free treats, is flour. Many recipes call for one or two cups and how those are incorporated into the batter can help make the final product light and fluffy or dense and inedible. So how do you make all your time and effort worth it? You sift the flour!
It’s as simple as that. Sifting reduces lumps and clumps and helps create tiny air pockets to boost fluffiness. It also increases the ease to incorporate the ingredients in your desserts.
As we all know gluten free flours tend to make things even more dense than their original counterparts so sifting is even more important in these recipes.
Here are my handy sifting tools that I use.
So I hope you all can enjoy your baking during this uncertain time and have more wins than flops because you sift your flour!
