Autumn and it’s time for apple crisp
When the weather gets that slight chill in the air I can’t get enough apples and cinnamon. Warm apple crisp is what I crave- it’s not only tasty, it makes the house smell amazing! Growing up in Massachusetts as soon as September comes around apple picking is on the docket! And not only do you have the great experience of picking apples straight from the tree you have pounds and pounds of delicious fall fruits. But with allergies many seasonal treats are beyond reach. Well that is about to change- here’s the delicious sweet dessert or breakfast (depending on when you like to devour it).
It’s a super simple recipe and takes less time than you think!
Peel, core, and dice up apples.
Pour the white sugar and cinnamon over the apples and mix until thoroughly coated.
In a separate bowl mix the dry ingredients.
Add the “butter” and spices.
Blend them together- I like to use my hands.
Spread over the apples evenly.
Pop in the oven and bake.
Cool slightly and enjoy by itself or with fresh whipped cream or ice cream.
You can make it heartier with added protein or Omega-3s by adding a safe protein powder or some flax meal to the crumble topping. This way you don’t feel as bad when you eat a quarter of the crisp in one sitting because it tastes so good!
