The Good, The Bad, The Babkah
This will be a quick post about my first attempt at babkah. Let’s just say it wasn’t a complete fail but it also wasn’t a win either.
Pinwheel cookies
What’s better than a cutout sugar cookie? A cute pinwheel cookie because it’s both vanilla and chocolate! It takes my simple cut out sugar cookie and adds another delicious element and design. Either way they are delicious!
Black and White… Cookies
When I was growing up I remember always having these cake-y cookies whenever we had extended family get togethers. Usually they were held at my grandparents house on the North Shore and one of the family would pick up Black and Whites from a Jewish deli/bakery near Boston. I didn’t know they were called Black and White Cookies until after college and that they aren’t a Jewish thing but a New York staple!
BB Treats
This treat is a combo of two of my favorite desserts I have created over the years. My Cecelia named them BB Treats- Blondies and Brownies together. They are decadent and truly addicting! The only hard part about making them is waiting for them to cool while they make the whole house smell so good.
Gluten Free Finds during Social Distancing
It has been close to two full months since we have been socially distant due to Covid-19. What do we all seek when we are stuck at home with limited activities and plans? Food of course. It makes us happy and gives us something to do until, well, the next meal comes around.
Nostalgic Rice Pudding
With this whole social distancing all I want are comfort foods or foods I grew up loving. One of those desserts is rice pudding. I don’t know about you but there is something so warm and inviting, eating something so rich and creamy.
Linzer Cookies that taste Even better than they look!
Linzer cookies are something that I remember eating in my grandparents’ kitchen as a child. They always seemed to have tins of cookies and Linzer cookies were one of my favorites with that delicious combo of raspberry jam and buttery cookies.
Chocolate Dream Donuts
It has come to my attention that I had a great variety of tasty baked donuts but I was missing one of the best ones around- chocolate! With my Cecelia being the chocoholic, that she is, this was a huge misstep for me.
Chocolate Pudding Pie
My Cecelia is a chocoholic it seems. She loves everything she can get her hands on, as long as it’s nut free, that’s chocolate. Since the holiday season started she has also become a really big pie fan. So what do you do when you have a chocolate fan who loves pie? You make her the best chocolate pudding pie you can!
Super Simple Pumpkin Muffins
November is here and it’s officially feeling like pumpkin weather! Yes, I may have taken a little longer to jump on the pumpkin spice bandwagon this year but seriously there were so many fabulous apple desserts I needed to get through first before I could happily move onto the next big flavor.
Nourished Festival in Worcester 2019
It’s been a bit crazy in our house with all the kitchen renovations but my Cecelia and I took a quick field trip to the Nourished Festival in Worcester, MA. It’s is a food expo held all over the United States showcasing gluten free foods. At each expo multiple vendors share their wares that are not just gluten free but many times nut free, keto/paleo friendly, and even vegetarian/plant based.
Hiccups in Renovation
We are quickly learning that nothing goes smooth when it comes to anything with our house. We should of known that a large project would be derailed at least three times before it even started.
Burnt to Blondie
I burnt the first batch horribly. The second batch refused to release from the paper. The third batch was only slightly burnt yet undercooked and foamy. Like how do you get blondies to foam?
The Ultimate Blondie FAIL...
Found a great recipe with only one cup flour and only one egg! It sounded delicious and was super quick and easy to make. With multiple ingredient swap I decided to go from squares to muffins. This was the beginning of where things went wrong.
Springtime!
Spring has officially sprung. The sun is shining and the birds are noisily chattering and Easter is right around the corner.
Green cupcake flops
It’s St Patricks Day! The day where everyone pretends they’re Irish (if they aren’t) and eats and drinks anything you can think of that is green or can be turned a shad of green.
Triangle-ish?
Growing up in a family of bakers meant there were always lots of yummy treats and desserts to be eaten and being Jewish meant there were some that only came out certain times of year. With Purim right around the corner hamantaschen are the staple dessert to be shared.
Ooey Gooey Allergen Free Cinnamon Rolls!
January 2019 marks the new health adventure I began- going completely gluten free. This has been a great thing but as we all know once we are told something is off limits then all you crave and for me it’s been cinnamon rolls.
Time to make the Donuts!
One of the many things I miss since my daughter was diagnosed with a peanut and tree nut allergy is donuts. Most bakeries that carry them just aren’t worth risking her safety with all the cross-contamination.
